SPRU Live Spirulina FAQ

Why is SPRU frozen?

SPRU is blast-frozen after harvest to preserve freshness and make storage and delivery practical. Keep it frozen and follow the instructions on the product pack.

Do I need to take SPRU every day?

No food has to be eaten every day. Use SPRU as often as it suits your diet and the serving option you selected.

How quickly will I notice a difference?

We cannot promise a particular feeling or result. Nutrition, sleep, activity, medication and health conditions all affect how someone feels.

How do I use SPRU?

Defrost a ready-to-drink Shot, or add a frozen Stix portion to juice, a smoothie or overnight oats. Follow the storage and serving directions supplied with the product.

What is in the Starter Pack?

The 30-day Starter Pack contains 6 frozen SPRU Shots and 24 frozen SPRU Stix. It is offered in LITE, HEALTH and PERFORMANCE serving options. These are portion guides, not medical dosages.

How does it taste?

Fresh spirulina has a mild, creamy taste. Flavour is personal, so try it with a drink or food you already enjoy.

Is SPRU grown in South Africa?

Yes. SPRU was founded in 2020 and is grown in lab-quality bioreactors at our farm in Linden, Johannesburg. The farm uses solar energy.

Where can I buy SPRU?

Current products and prices are available in the SPRU online shop. For reseller or other enquiries, use our Connect page.

How is fresh spirulina different from dried spirulina?

Fresh-frozen and dried products differ in taste, texture, water content, processing and storage. Nutrient levels vary by product and production method; we do not claim that all dried spirulina is contaminated or nutritionally ineffective.

Does SPRU provide iron and protein?

Spirulina naturally contains iron and protein. The amount contributed to your diet depends on the serving size. Anyone concerned about iron deficiency should seek testing and professional advice.

Can I stop taking supplements?

No. Do not stop prescribed or professionally recommended supplements because you start eating SPRU. Ask the healthcare professional who recommended them before making a change.

Is SPRU vegan?

Yes. SPRU Live Spirulina products are plant-based. Check the individual product ingredients where fruit juice or other ingredients are included.

Is SPRU medicine?

No. SPRU is food. It is not intended to diagnose, prevent, treat or cure disease and should not replace medical care.
